Season finished for Allyson Felix
According to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) 200m champion sprinter Allyson Felix of the United States has announced that she is ready to take a break from the track and return in 2011. The 24 year-old writes that she is “done for the year,” and wishes to work on new goals and aspirations for the new athletics season.
The winner of eight victories in the 200m and 400m runs and two Samsung Diamond Race trophies, the young athlete feels entitled to a break after completing such a gratifying, yet challenging season. Reflecting on her most recent race in Brussels, she states, “I felt very pleased with my year,” but is critical of maintaining high standards. “I didn't run as fast as I would have liked to,” she admits, “[but] I focused on getting through the year healthy and winning my races. Off years are tough without having a major race to focus on, but I had fun trying new things this season and learning more about my events.”
Felix will take the rest of September off and relax in the Bahamas, where she “love[s] being by the water,” and is “looking forward to just relaxing.” Then she will resume weight room training in October, and return to the track in November.
Felix also confessed her huge passion for college football. “Even though USC where I attended college is suffering from all of their NCAA sanctions I'm continuing to support them and excited to watch them play this year,” she states.
As well, Felix will participate in her first President’s Council on Physical Fitness meeting in mid-September, a volunteer group which seeks to promote health and fitness among America’s youth. Other famous athletes which are on the chair are Drew Brees, Dominique Dawes, Grant Hill, Chris Paul, Billie Jean King and Michelle Kwan.
The already busy Felix tells her fans to anticipate her return in 2011, where no doubt she is set to make some more memories on the track.
