Seasoned Smriti Mehra takes on a dual role
The 40-year-old veteran, Smriti Mehra, is currently involved in charity work. She is busy collecting the basic necessities of life for bright prospects in Calcutta.
While speaking about how her current project regarding how the ‘charity work’ is coming along, she said:
“I give my undivided attention to both golf and charity and my presence here for the Hero Women’s India Open is a good example of my passion for golf and my keenness in helping our budding juniors to understand how to be a good golfer and an ambassador to
the sport”.
She also spoke about how her target is only to play the game and how it can lead her to win the Hero Women’s India Open, which is scheduled to start on Friday.
“My target is to play my game and if that can lead me to win the Hero Women’s India Open beginning tomorrow (Friday), then it would be great. I would love to win it here”.
“I have always supported Indian golf. Even when I was playing on the US LPGA, I made a point of returning to play on the Indian Tour”.
However, she then stated that although she wants to win the Hero Women’s Indian Open Championship, she is currently concentrating on charity work.
She claimed that whenever she is not working and is not concentrating on playing golf, she is asking people to donate clothes, shoes and golf equipment so that even the people who cannot afford these luxuries of life can become successful once they receive
them.
When she was questioned about how she thinks her career is taking turns at the moment, she stated that even though she is 40, all that she thinks about is getting on top of the podium in order to lift the trophy.
She claimed that age is not a factor which should come in the way of success and gave an example of Julie Inkster, who won the trophy at the age of 50.
Moreover, she also spoke about Laura Davies, who is going to be her playing partner, and is currently 49 years old.
She also spoke about how the competition’s prize is attracting many extraordinary golfers from around the globe and specifically mentioned Pornanong Phatlum, Laura Davies, Cassandra Kirkland, Carly Booth, Karen Lunn and Caroline Hedwall.
She then mentioned about how these phenomenal players are going to be accompanied by the winners of the Ladies Asian Golf Tour and named Nontaya Srisawang, Yoopan Tiranun and Numa Gulyanamitta.
Hence, she stated that the competition is going to be strong. Nevertheless, she is still going to try and win it, as she wants to be on the winners’ rostrum.
