Does anyone know the law for wearing a seat belt? Does the seat belt have to be over the shoulder as well as the waist or is it being around just the waist enough? I live in Illinois btw if it differs from state to state.

  1. Illinois law states that the seat restraint will be worn in the manner it was designed.  so if you have the combo lap/shoulder belt then that is how it has to be worn.  I have a few belt tickets myself and it has been repeatedly drilled into my head!!!  I live in Illinois as well.  Good luck!!!!!!!!!

  2. Your state law requires that it be over the shoulder and on your waist and if caught the fine will be $25.00 for the first offense and it is the same for all states but the fines are different....

  3. It has to be over the shoulder and the waist. Seat belt laws are fairly uniform. The only exceptions are cars made without seatbelts(cars in the 50s and earlier). A seatbelt just around your waist would just keep you from flying out of the car. You'd probably slam the h**l out of your head on the steering wheel/dashboard.

  4. it has to be in shoulder and waist in order to function an protect you the way it was design

  5. the seat belt has  to be worn correctly the way the directions show so it is over the shoulder and around the lap
