ok so i got pulled over for speeding my bad (this time i wasn't trying to speed, o well)

the officer was a real nice guy but i still got the ticket.

anyway he also gave me a fix it ticket, my car has no lap belts for the front two seats, i drive a 1987 vw jetta 4 door sedan. there never has been seat belts in the car as long as i have owned it and by the looks of it there never were. but by the glory of he California justice system the burden is mine to prove to the courts that the car never came with them.

does anyone know the history of this make? i know newer jettas have them, i just assumed that the law at the time didnt call for them.

any help would be appreciated

  1. My first car was an 87 jetta, it had a shoulder belt that hooked to the door and the car wouldnt start unless it was buckled. There was no lap belt in it either, I dont think I ever got pulled over in that car so I couldnt help you there but you should be able to search on the net for some info on that car. My 93 Mirage has the same type of seatbelts but there is a seperate lap belt that goes with it.

  2. Update................

I checked the wrong year before so I also called my friend at VW and the jetta did not start using a lap belt until 1991, so your car will only have the side door retractable seat-belts and no lap belts...

  3. Why not have your VW Jetta installed with seat belt? That would help...
