Question:

Seating Depth for .223 Tikka T3

Gday, I am just starting to reload some rounds for my New .223 Tikka T3.

I have a couple of problems with the seating depth though. I have been told and it seems to be industry practice to place the bullet out far enough to just clear the lands of the rifling. My problem is the magazine won't allow me to seat the bullet out far enough.

Measured values are a s follows:

Factory Length: 2.260

Magazine max length: 2.285

Rifle max seating depth: 2.315

These are all overall lengths for the case with a Nosler 50gr ballistic tip varmint bullet seated.

So you can see quite clearly I can't seat the bullet out as far as I should to achieve the near the lands depth.

To my question(s).

1: Does anybody out there have a T3 .223 and reload and what is your completed cases overall length

2: Will accuracy be effected THAT much if I don't seat it out near the lands?

3: I am also planning to load some 34gr varmint grenades if anybody has any data on them it aould also be appreciated.

Cheers, Witty.

  1.  i have this exact rifle in the same cartridge and i reload for it too. Now i use v-max and win748 powder.. i seat my bullets just deep enough so i can feed them comfortably from my magazine into the chamber.. My gun with my load shoots one hole groups at 100m .. consistantly.. But im just one guy..
