Seating in the airplane?..?

ok... i have a stand by ticket so i might get on my flight on for business class. i can not afford to pay the whole ticket right now so somebody hooked me up with a stand by ticket. which was only like 400$. and my boyfriend has a ticket to economy class, already paid for it and its not standby. we have the same flight there and back. will they allow me to trade with somebody next to him and send the person to first class and allow me to sit in economy?

When the staff opens up the desk at the gate, go talk to them and say that you'd like to switch so that you two can sit together.    There's always a bunch of last minute seat juggling to try to accommodate families with children, etc.  If you get your standby assignment, they'll try to figure you into their rearrangement, then they'll call you up and give you a new boarding pass.

It depends on who the crew is that day.  Some will be jerks and say no, some will allow it.  And i'm pretty sure whoever you offer the ticket to will be more than happy to get the free upgrade.

  You'll have to explain the situation to the ticketing agent and ask if that is acceptable.
