Question:

Seats......?

Just curious, do you think that average movie theatre seats are around the same size as an economy seat on an airplane. I am flying with Air Transat next week on the Airbus a310-300. I am a little hefty on the bottom part of me and i fit into a movie theatre seat with some room to spare, very comfortable and don't bother anyone beside me. What are your views on my flight coming up next week? Serious answers only please

  1. Airplane seats are smaller than theater seats.  Typical seat bottom width is 16.5 to 17.5 inches (about 43 cm).

  2. You know, when a lady asks me a question like this I feel it's best to keep my mouth shut. Like when my wife asks, "Honey, do these jeans make me look fat?" Uh uh.

  3. I disagree with the previous poster - I think the plane seats are narrower than the movie theater seats.

  4. the thing with airliners are that they are in the business of moving the most amount of people possible in the space that is available.  with that said, the seats are narrower and the leg room is minimal.  i'm 6' 200 lbs and my knees press up against the back of the seat in front of me when its not inclined.  I almost always touch shoulders with the person sitting next to me also.  just keep in mind that you can fly cross country for $100 because they jam you in.

  5. I think theater seats are slightly more spacious than your average economy seats on a plane..

Definitely avoid the middle seat, that's the worst..Aisle seats give you more space..Windows are more comfortable..

  6. i believe theater seats are bigger. but if you're just a little hefty you should have no problem. i'm a frequent flyer and i used to weigh almost 300 pounds and i would barely fit in a seat. whenever i had a window seat, i'd have to lean towards the window to keep myself from touching the person next to me, and believe me, that was so unfomfortable. whenever i had a middle seat, i'd have to fold my arms so i wouldn't be touching both passengers next to me, and that too was very uncomfortable. just imagine someone having to fold their arms for hours at a time seems very uncomfortable. the aisle seat is the best because i could lean into the aisle and it felt more spacious. whether you are a big or small person, airplane seats will always be the size they are. and if you could fit into one or not, it's still a very small space to be able to enjoy the flight. if our country didn't have as many obese people in the world, we wouldn't have to worry about being able to fit in the seat or not. from what it sounds, you are not that big, you just have a little extra weight down there, you shouldn't have a problem. but for big people it is a problem, and i believe that big people should buy two seats. but you will be fine.

  7. i think the plane seat might be a little bigger, you should be good
