Seattle Mariners’ Chris Gimenez chats with press after club loses 5-12 against Texas Rangers
Former Cleveland Indians’ catcher and now Seattle Mariners stand-in back-stop player, Chris Gimenez took the time out on Sunday, September 25 to talk about the recent game that ended up in a home run derby. The Seattle ball club took on the Texas Rangers
at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
Much to their disappointment, the American League West leaders clinched the important winner as Yorvit Torrealba smashed two homers in the encounter. Gimenez was willing to comment on the 5-12 loss to the home team. He responded to Adrian Beltre’s homer
in the third inning with a stunning home-run against Texas hurler Derek Holland.
He later found out what would happen if the Rangers were challenged.
"That's definitely not a team you want to have a home run derby with," Gimenez said after the Seattle Mariners came up short.
Rangers smashed four homers and Torrealba’s knock included a grand slam hit as well. This encounter marked the first time Mariners went up with four homers in the season. They never lost a game with three or more home-runs but they were not so lucky against
the heavy hitting Texan Machine.
Gimenez was pleased with his stint on the plate. He was excited to walk out of the game with a home-run. The last time he smashed one out to the stands was back in August 27, 2010 when he played for the Indians.
"That was fun. It felt like I haven't done that in forever," Gimenez said. "It's just nice to have gotten a few at-bats here the last couple days and get myself going."
The star catcher has five home-runs in his career and it will be a wonder to see how he fares against the Oakland Athletics in the next game. The Mariners put in a decent effort against the Rangers, but they were unable to match the power of Texas. Seattle
will be looking to improve their performance before their next match-up and try to end the regular season on a high note.
