Seattle Mariners’ Miguel Olivo feeling better, ready to work in a couple of weeks

The Seattle Mariners are hard at work in Peoria, Arizona. Their strained workout schedule has seen them go up against the toughest teams in the American League and the National League.
Nevertheless, with new players on the horizon and prospects breaking through the Minor Leagues for Major League Baseball (MLB) appearances, the Mariners are accomplishing a lot over their Spring Training.

Miguel Olivo in particular is making his way back from injury. The player is recording success in recovery and is expected to be back in a week or two.

Olivo had an awkward experience in the field as he took up his role as catcher in the Mariners’ game in the Cactus League on Saturday. The player scored a run on a sacrifice fly but on his way to the home plate, fell face first as pain shot through his thigh. Though there are no MRI results available at the moment, Seattle’s manager, Eric Wedge will come out to announce the report soon.

“We'll just have to wait and see. We're still evaluating the tests,” Wedge said. “He felt better this morning and he's getting some work done today. We're not exactly sure what kind of timeframe we're looking at, but obviously this is going to give those other catchers more of an opportunity for us to take a look at.”

The plan has been to rest Miguel’s leg for a complete week or two before he makes his way to the camp again. The Mariners are not pushing the hitting ace for a speedy recovery as their major aim is to see the catcher back on his feet completely for the new league season.

Olivo felt a twinge on his thigh when he was running from third base towards the home plate. As he was approaching, he started to grab his leg before eventually falling down.

“I just dropped,” he said. “I didn't want to keep pushing. Things happen. And yesterday I felt better than any day in Spring Training. I know I'll be back soon because I like to work hard and when you work hard, things get better.”
