Seattle Mariners Nate Robertson sidelined four weeks due to arthroscopic surgery
Seattle Mariners will have to face a set-back as Nate Robertson, who complained soreness in his left elbow during the last two games, has undergone arthroscopic surgery on Wednesday, March16.
Robertson was competing for the fifth spot in the roster and will now be sidelined for the next four weeks, according to the team.
Nate who already had three surgeries on his left arm, reported some loose bodies in pitching arm and underwent surgery in Kerlan-Job clinic by Los Angeles Dodgers’ team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
Left-handed pitcher who made his way into the Mariners on January 2011 as a Minor Leaguer was once a part of the Philadelphia Phillies last season. While talking to reporters after hearing the news he expressed his concerns about his stay in team.
"It's terrible timing for me trying to make the club, but I'm in good hands,” Robertson said. "Everybody is on the same page about still wanting me to be here, still believing I can help, understanding it's not a career-threatening surgery. Once I get healthy,
then that evaluation process starts. And hopefully it starts soon."
Mariners have showed interest about his stay in club, according to Robertson, who is now out of the fifth rotation spot competition. Rookie Michael Pineda, David Pauley and Luke French are now in the contest for the coveted rotation spot.
If it wasn’t for the recent injury, he was a possible strong prospect for the Mariners. However his record was not spectacular in that he was 0-1 in two starts and had a 7.71 ERA during the spring session.
He had posted 57-77 record with 5.01 ERA in nine seasons in Major League. Florida Marlins originally signed him in 2002 before he was traded to Detroit Tigers affiliated team Toledo Mud Hens in 2003. Robertson proved his class when given chance in Major
League against Texas Rangers allowing just two runs while striking-out eight batters in just over eight innings.
It will be interesting to see how quickly Nate manages to rehabilitate his elbow and make a place for himself in the team.
