Seattle Mariners acquire Kendrys Morales – MLB Update
The Seattle Mariners have made a bold decision as they traded their six-year Major League Baseball veteran Jason Vargas to Los Angeles Angels and acquired Kendrys Morales.
“We have been focused on adding offense this off-season, and feel that Kendrys will be a middle-of-the-order bat for us. He’s a switch-hitter with power who has played, and hit, in the AL West, He’s familiar with the teams,” GM Jack Zduriencik said in a press release.
He added, “We hate to part with Jason, and really appreciate everything he’s done for us, but we are in a situation where we had to give up talent to acquire talent.”
Later Mariners manager Eric Wedge said in detail about this recent trade, “Kendrys gives us a veteran presence and a proven, middle-of-the-order bat, with power from both sides of the plate, Adding him to our line-up immediately makes us a better offensive club.”
With this trade, the Mariners have somewhat strengthened their offence as Morales batted wonderfully last season with the Angels. On the other hand, the player they traded starting pitcher Jason Vergas did not impress with his poor outing.
Morales went hitting at .273 along with 22 home runs, 73 RBIs and .320 OBP. Not only he played brilliantly in the last Major League competition but he has also been playing quite consistently since 2006. His career hitting average is also consistent at .281 along with 79 home runs, 265 RBIs and .331 OBP.
Jason Vargas however, could not play well in the last Major League Baseball season in which he pitched with an ERA of 3.85 along with 14-11 win-loss, 141 strikeouts and 1.18 WHIP. His career ERA stands at 4.35 along with 42-50 win-loss, 530 strikeouts and 1.31 WHIP.
Experts say that Morales is a good player and possesses right abilities to take the Mariners to another level. He started his career in 2006 and since then he has been an active part of Angels’ roster.
Earlier it was revealed in the media that Angels are going to retain him but later they did agree to trade him for a potential pitcher.
