Seattle Mariners beat Boston Red Sox 2-1 - MLB Recap
Seattle Mariners edged past the Boston Red Sox 2-1 in the third and last game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, September 5 at Safeco Field in Seattle.
"It should mean something to them, These guys have worked hard to get better they are better. And they're going to keep getting better." Seattle manager Eric Wedge said on his team’s overall performance which did not give any loop-holes during the entire game.
Mariners’ upfront pitching rotation played tremendously and earned a great victory for their team.
Starter Kevin Millwood started the game for the Mariners and proved his valour. He pitched six innings and received one run and struck-out three Red Sox’s batters on his 4.27 ERA.
Relief pitcher Stephen Pryor pitched 0.1 innings and performed tremendously as he did not receive any run or hit on his 2.51 ERA.
Along with pitchers, the Mariners' batters also did well on the mound and won the game for their team.
Eric Thames played especially well with his one run and two hits on his four at-bats.
“It's nice where we're at right now after having a tough first half, coming back strong in the second half putting it together a little bit, It's exciting for the rest of the year exciting going into next year,” Dustin Ackley said.
On the other hand, the Red Sox pitcher Aaron Cook did not play well and was hammered with hits. He pitched six innings and seven hits along with two runs. He retired five batters and could not maintain his ERA which rose to 5.17.
"This was not a good road trip, obviously, One of the worst I've even experienced. The walk hurt a little, The base hit by Casper could have been at somebody, but it was right in the hole," said Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine.
Relief pitcher Andrew Miller pitched 0.2 innings and struck-out only two batters on his 3.47 ERA.
Red Sox’s entire batting line-up also disappointed with their performances and lost the game.
Only Jacoby Ellsbury was able to score in the Red Sox’s batting line-up. He scored one run and one hit on his consistent .361 slugging percentage. While the rest of their roster remained silent and lost the game.
The Mariners managed to put in a good performance and beat the Red Sox to build up some much needed confidence in their game-play.
