Seattle Mariners beat Texas Rangers 3-5 to win the series – MLB Update
Seattle Mariners beat Texas Rangers 3-5 at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington on Wednesday, May 23 in the decisive finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Michael Saunders had an excellent time on the plate as he provided Seattle with a perfect start. Saunders hit a sacrifice fly to centre in the second inning to score the first run for the Mariners.
However, the star of the show was Alex Liddi who hit a grand slam to left in a four run fifth inning. It will not be wrong to say that Liddi single handedly changed the picture of the game.
With Mariners leading 5-1 in the eighth, Josh Hamilton doubled to right to score the first run for the Rangers. Adrian Beltre homered to left centre in the same inning to bring Texas Rangers back into the contest but credit must be given Seattle’s closers who held on to a slim lead to help their team secure an epic series victory. Kevin Millwood was brilliant in pitching department of the game as he pitched six shutout innings.
"The biggest thing was just confidence has been building for the last couple of weeks so I felt like when I got out there it just felt like I was going to have a good game and throw the ball well," Millwood said. "When I missed guys made good plays or they just fouled it off. Confidence goes a long ways in this game."
"He's a guy that's capable of doing some damage up there. He works as hard as anybody we have. That's the reason he's able to maintain the way he does when he doesn't play," Seattle manager Eric Wedge said.
The Mariners will be excited to win the series against one of the strongest teams in the American League. Throughout the season, the Mariners have shown us that they have the resources to overcome even the best in the business.
The biggest problem for them is their inability to give results on regular basis. It will be interesting to see if they can take some confidence from this series’ win to change the course of their campaign.
