Seattle Mariners defeat Los Angeles Angels 8-6 – MLB Recap
The Seattle Mariners defeated the Los Angeles 8-6 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, May 4 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
"When you're facing those two hitters in that situation, you can't ask for anything more, He did a great job of making them work and then he had to finish it off in the ninth. It was a great performance by Tom." Mariners’ manager Eric Wedge said on his team’s tremendous effort.
The Angels’ starter Ervin Santana was the real man behind who could not hold on to his pitching and gave too much waivered deliveries which caused his team bitterly in the end.
"My command was off today. That was the issue for today's game, I'm just going to erase today's outing and get the next one." Ervin Santana said.
Real twist came when Mariners short-stop Munenori Kawasaki made double in the bottom of the seventh which ultimately proved a winning factor for his team. The Mariners from seventh innings’ onwards never gave their opponents any clear opportunity to take control of the game instead they kept the Angels under pressure and defeated them in style.
"I wasn't thinking about anything, just react physically. We had a lot of hits today and I think I was able to produce because of all the hits that came before me." Munenori Kawasaki said.
With this win, the Mariners have also taken control of the series and experts also believe that this victory will prove a solid beginning for Seattle on which they can move forward into next round with bigger thrust.
Already this one win has increased their winning percentage to .439. The Mariners currently are in third position in the American League West Division with 25-32 win loss record.
On the other hand, the Angels, despite losing the first game, are sitting one place ahead of the Mariners. However, if they did not learn lessons from their recent games to play offensive, the chances are high that Seattle could take their place in the American League West Division.
