Seattle Mariners fail to impress as they lose to Chicago White Sox 2-4 – MLB Update
The Chicago White Sox reduced the Seattle Mariners to a dreary 56-74 for the season after a 4-2 battering of the struggling American League West division team at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington on Friday, August 26.
Jake Peavy started brilliantly for the White Sox, his six innings going for just two runs amid seven hits. Peavy displayed immense variety in his spell at the mound which saw him strike-out eight batters in a total of 108 pitches. He managed to throw 72
strikes to help his earned-run average down to 4.93. Peavy’s performance earned him his sixth win of the season with as many losses already against his name.
Miguel Olivo and Kyle Seager contributed for the Mariners in a game where scoring did not come easily for the home team. Olivo scored the first run for the Mariners via a gigantic 413 feet home-run down the centre field before Seager completed his run in
the fourth inning on Trayvon Robinson’s effort to level the score at two runs each.
Earlier, the White Sox started the game in a classy manner with a two-run first inning to impose an early pressure on the hosts. Juan Pierre and Paul Konerko were the lucky scorers for the visitors, who have fought hard throughout the season to maintain
their .500 winning percentage.
With the score level at the bottom of the fourth inning, a two-run home run by Brent Lillibridge at the top of the fifth inning gave the visitors a two-run advantage which proved enough for them to seal the victory. Lillibridge pulled the ball to the favoured
left field allowing Pierre to complete his second run of the game.
Charlie Furbush was uninspiring yet again for the Mariners as they continue to build a formidable rotation after failing miserably this season. Furbush leaked four runs in five ordinary-innings for his sixth loss this season. His earned-run average has now
soared up to 4.87 for the season.
The relief pitchers did well to make up for Furbush but the fifth inning damage was enough to see Chicago through.
The White Sox lead the three-game series 1-0.
