Seattle Mariners go slow to avoid any setbacks – MLB News
The Seattle Mariners’ shortstop Brendan Ryan stated on Sunday, February 19, that the club is going slowly this time round to ensure there are no setbacks. As Spring Training gathers momentum, the Seattle Mariners are meticulously planning to have a smooth
workout.
“It's not that bad," Ryan said. "We're just doing stuff to make sure, like going on a pitcher's plan, to make sure there are no setbacks or anything like that.”
The Mariners have a striking line-up for the new season, having assembled a combination of experienced and young players. The 29-year-old shortstop exercises tremendous influence over the young players, thanks to his experience and powerful performance throughout
his career.
Ryan is not completely fit as the reports have indicated. He had problems in his shoulder last year when the season was coming to an end. As the problems compounded, he could not appear in the last 11 games.
As to whether he has regained his fitness and is ready to demonstrate his sparkle is something too early to say. Ryan will like to be in good health prior to his return as a regular part of team.
With the years of experience embellishing his credential, Ryan will have a lot to offer and impart for the young shortstops. He will be having a drill with the likes of Munenori Kawasaki, Nick Franklin, Carlos Triunfel and Luis Rodriguez.
Having already stated that the club will have a slow start, he thinks that that availability of ample time does not necessitate hurry.
"Part of it is we have so much time that there's no hurry at all," he said. "We're just going to kind of baby-step it along. I'll throw from however many feet, and see how that feels, and then kick it up the next day."
As Ryan recovers after the shoulder problems he experienced during the past year, the Mariners expect to make maximum use of his power and experience. From the pace of Spring Training, one can assume that the Mariners will be a hard nut to crack. It will
be interesting to see how the Mariners perform during Spring Training and the subsequent 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
