Seattle Mariners look to assign first base role to Alex Liddi – MLB News
The Seattle Mariners’ manager Eric Wedge stated on Tuesday, February 14, that the club will provide an opportunity to Alex Liddi to play at first base. An otherwise third base prospect, Liddi hails from Italy with a career record that is indeed promising.
For now, the Mariners have allowed the 23-year-old 6ft 4in player to prove his credentials in the Minor League. Liddi, interestingly, has had 53 games appearance at first base, that can prove to be helpful in adjusting to the same position in the Major League.
"We'll bounce him between first and third," Wedge said. "As he's working to make that transition from Minor Leagues to the big leagues, we're not sure how that will play out this spring and I want that to be an option for him. It can only help him and help
us with that versatility."
The Seattle Mariners are descending on the ballparks this year with relatively big changes and coming with the players who remain top prospects. This alluring combination shall be instrumental in determining the success of the team.
Alex Liddi is one of the prospects. The previous year, Liddi had a chance to appear in 15 of the games in the regular season, hitting .225 with six RBIs to his credit, having three homers in 40 at-bats. The powerful hitter, therefore, stands a wonderful
chance to utilise this opportunity on first base.
"He's a big kid, a right-hander and moves around well," Wedge said. "I think it's a good thing. And he's dabbled over there before."
Faced with the teams like the Los Angeles Angels, Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics in the American League West Division, there are a lot of things that the Mariners need to consider prior to the commencement of the regular season.
It goes without saying, though, that the youngsters whom the club has in their 40-man roster are capable of upsetting any team. Although the Mariners may well be the underdogs compared to the other stronger teams, they have the potential to win on any given
day considering their ability to adapt themselves according to the situation.
