Seattle Mariners outplay Minnesota Twins 5-4 to pick up series win – MLB Update

The Seattle Mariners pulled off another 5-4 victory against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday, September 22 at Target Field in Minneapolis.
The Mariners went in to the game with a 5-4 victory in the previous night. The score line would not change as the club managed to save themselves with five runs from the sixth and the seventh inning.
Kevin Slowey started for the Twins and he had a very good night till he moved beyond five innings of pitching. The star gave up five runs off six hits to give away the winning opportunity the Twins were hoping for. The star is now 0-7 in the season and it
is believed he may not be able to find his place in the rotation next season if he concedes so often.
Michael Pineda, on the other hand, started for the Mariners. He gave up two runs off six hits in his four innings of pitching. He could not go any further in the game, as manager Eric Wedge decided to replace him with Jeff Gray. Cesar Jimenez picked up the
important win for the Mariners in the sixth inning. He conceded one run in 1.1 innings of pitching from the mound.
The Twins began the scoring ticker in the bottom first against Pineda. Chris Parmelee drove in the important run as he smashed the Mariners for a ground ball single towards left-field. Ben Revere scored from second base. With the score 1-0, Trevor Plouffe
scored for the Twins in the bottom of the fourth after Joe Benson drove him in with an RBI double to centre-field.
Seattle manager quickly brought his bullpen into play after the fourth while the Twins nested their 2-0 lead on Slowey. The home team mounted their bases in the bottom of the fifth with runners but they were unable to fight off a run as Jimenez provided
an important out to end the inning.
Mariners were however given their chance in the top of the sixth when Ichiro Suzuki kicked off his bid for a run with a single. He went through home subsequently as Kyle Seager smashed a double to centre-field.
Things looked steamy in the sixth and the Mariners equalised through Dustin Ackley, who smashed a double to centre-field to get Seager home from second base. The scores were now tied at 2-2 and things looked bad for Slowey.
The Twins’ pitcher was weak in his throws and the Mariners took advantage of him in the top of the seventh as catcher Miguel Olivo and designated hitter Wily Mo Pena ran home off Trayvon Robinson’s single. At 4-2 up, the Mariners added another run in the
same inning. This time against Phil Dumatrait who replaced Slowey. Robinson scored from an RBI double from Suzuki.
The damage was done and the Twins tried to pull the game back in the later innings but there was not much effort. Plouffe scored for Minnesota in the bottom of the eighth off a Brian Dinkelman single. Plouffe was involved again in the last inning as he drove
Michael Cuddyer in with an RBI single.
The Mariners clinched the series 2-0 and now they have the opportunity to sweep the Twins tomorrow. It will be interesting to see both teams battle it out in this exciting series.
