Seattle Mariners pin hopes on young pitchers – MLB News
The Seattle Mariners’ manager Eric Wedge stated on Monday, March 5, that the club will keep stretching the starters in the Cactus League. With around 10 pitchers on their side, the Mariners have got an ideal opportunity to determine who might be perfectly
placed to take the charge of the pitching mound in given games.
"All the starters, we'll keep stretching them out," said Wedge. "We've got probably 8, 9, 10 guys we'll continue to stretch out. Obviously we won't be able to do it all up here [in Cactus League play], but we'll make sure they get to where they need to be
by the time we break camp."
Seattle Mariners have got a list of young pitchers that include Taijuan Walker who is as young as 19-years-old. Other youngsters that have been the Draft pick for the Mariners this season are the likes of Erasmo Ramirez, Danny Hultzen and James Paxton.
As for the right-handed youngster, Walker, who had the chance of playing the game against the Cincinnati Reds, for most part it has been good.
"It was cool," Walker said. "I thought I could have got ahead of the hitters more. I fell behind a little bit. But for the most part, I felt good out there."
Other youngsters are equally ready to grab any chance that is thrown at them. Full of ambition and possessing talent, the 21-year-old Ramirez is looking forward to an opportunity to prove his mettle as the pitcher.
Whether he gets the chance to play in the Major League Baseball is questionable. However, the preparedness and effectiveness exhibited by the young player give an idea how capable he is to wreck havoc on the rival teams.
All in all, the Seattle Mariners have got a distinct combination of youngsters and experienced players at this juncture to take on the teams in the League. Once the season kicks off, they will surely be descending on the ballpark with an entirely new outlook.
If any evidence is needed, the ongoing Cactus League can be a good benchmark to assess the preparedness of the team. The Mariners will be looking to support their young pitchers in the hopes of a successful 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
