Seattle Mariners ready to take on rivals – MLB News
The Seattle Mariners’ general manager Jack Zduriencik commented on Thursday, January 26, that the upcoming season will be a challenging one owing to the presence of young players in the team. In his Thursday press conference prior to the initiation of Spring
Training, Zduriencik spoke on a range of issues, talking about the challenges the team faces.
"It's going to be a challenge, because of the young kids," Zduriencik said. "Dustin Ackley and Kyle Seager have half a season in the big leagues. Casper Wells ... you start looking around at the pieces and some of the young pitchers, Tom Wilhelmsen, for
example.”
Being very forthcoming while talking to the press that wanted to know about the strategy of the team, Zduriencik made it clear that despite numerous factors supposedly not favouring the club, all the teams in the division shall find the Mariners tough.
While he admitted he did not have any quick solution to the range of problems that the team may face during their evolution to mature, his emphasis was that it is the talent that will sustain the Mariners in the season.
With the teams like the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels in the division, the Seattle Mariners know they have to exert themselves hard to stay afloat. While there is no rhetoric involved in any of the recent statements coming from the Seattle Mariners,
it is an incontrovertible fact that they are willing to put up some stiff resistance.
Jack Zduriencik remains aware that both the Rangers and Angeles have got a strong line up and they were way ahead of the Mariners even before having inducted some accomplished players in their 40-men roster.
“Then you look at what happens in this division. No matter how you shake it, you can't ignore what Texas and Anaheim did, and those clubs were ahead of us prior to these moves. So it's an uphill battle. We've got a real challenge before us.”
Nonetheless, despite all challenges that the Seattle Mariners are currently faced with, the team general manager expects the players to put in a decent performance against their rivals during the upcoming regular season.
