Seattle Mariners receive 1-6 hammering from Boston Red Sox – MLB Recap
The Seattle Mariners received bitter hammering of 1-6 from the Boston Red Sox in the first game of their two-match regular series encounter on Monday, May 14 at Fenway Park, Boston in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Jon Lester performed wonderfully and played a key role for his team’s win.
He remained on the mound for nine innings and never gave any loop hole to the Mariners’ starting batting lineup giving only one run and eight hits.
"When you're working fast, it's a good thing to be able to pitch and not think about anything, Sometimes you have nights like this where things are going your way. When you get the batters making early contact and fly balls guy after guy, it helps," said
Lester with confidence.
Later the Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said for his team’s tremendous win, "We're trying to build a foundation of confidence in our team, When Jon is out there pitching like that, we feel very good about ourselves."
Seattle manager Eric Wedge was not impressed with his team’s performance however, he did praise the Red Sox pitcher Lester and told the media, "He did a great job of spotting his fastball both inside and outside to righties and lefties, and he cuts the ball
every now and again.”
Mariners’ starter Jason Vargas could not play well and went with five runs, seven hits and five earned runs.
The Red Sox went ahead in the very first inning and never looked weak in their offence throughout the remaining nine. They stretched the six runs’ lead into eighth and cruise passed the Mariners in the end.
The only run scored by the Mariners’ was from second baseman Kyle Seager in the ninth, but other than he, no player was able to perform like their potentials.
The next game is scheduled on Tuesday, May 15 on the same venue, but this time, the Mariners will also be trying their best to preserve some pride after the 6-1 hammering.
Currently both teams are doing fairly good in the competition and not letting any opponent dominate them fully.
