Seattle Mariners receive 6-2 hammering from New York Yankees – MLB Recap
The Seattle Mariners received 6-2 hammering from the New York Yankees in their first game of three-match regular series on Friday, May 11, at Yankee Stadium, New York in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Left fielder Raul Ibanez played well and hammered a three run homer to Mariners starter Felix Hernandez in the sixth inning and gave the Yankees a deserted win.
After the game, Ibanez said in detail about his game and what were the real points behind of his good performance, “When you're facing an elite pitcher like him, sometimes the first pitch is the best one he's going to throw you, Then he gets nasty. Kevin
Long mentioned something to me before that third at-bat, told me. I tried to incorporate that into that at-bat, and it worked out.”
The Yankees manager Joe Girardi said of Ibanez’s performance with confidence, "They said it takes him a while to get going in spring training, Sometimes you find that with older players. I just think our guys are starting to feel better at the plate."
Later Felix Hernandez also commented in the media and told reporters about his somewhat poor outing. He said, "I was throwing that sinker for the first pitch, That was in the middle of the plate."
The Yankees’ second base Robinson Cano also played good with his single to left in the very first inning. The overall game was played on high pace. The Mariners went early into one run lead while the Yankees came back in style in sixth where they scored
four runs and eventually took the game away in the eighth inning.
The Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda played well for his team’s win with six hits along with two runs, two earned and two strikeouts.
With this recent win, the Yankees have improved their winning percentage as well. Now they are standing confident at third position in American League East behind Tampa Bay Rays with the winning percentage of .563.
On the other hand, the Mariners are also at third position in American League West with slight consistent 15-19 win loss record.
