Seattle Mariners sign starting pitcher Kevin Millwood – MLB News
The Seattle Mariners have recently signed starting pitcher Kevin Millwood. Though no official statement has come out in the media but still some inside Major League sources have confirmed Millwood’s potential signing with the Mariners.
Earlier, the Mariners have traded Michael Pineda that opened-up slight extra room for Millwood to come and play as a new role player.
Mariners’ management, who pretty much know their entire team, lost too many games last season especially late in the regular season, wanted to rotate their starting line-up while as soon as 2011 Major League season was over, they took this drastic step to trade their one player in order to add a potential player.
Now the Mariners 40-man roster is completed for 2012 and with this roster, they can perform little better and most likely will achieve some extra glory in this coming season.
Adding a player like Millwood is also beneficial as he will help other young players in future. Millwood, who has vast 14 years of experience, has played for several MLB teams in his career.
Starting his career from the Atlanta Braves franchise, Millwood went on to play for the Philadelphia Phillies, Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles and Colorado Rockies.
Before coming into the Mariners franchise, several other teams including the New York Mets and New York Yankees have also tried to sign Millwood but he somehow did not agree to those two particular offers.
Millwood’s game has never disappointed wherever he played. His enthusiasm has always shined. Recently, he has also said, “Facing batters who are swinging the bat gave me a chance to see whether I'm being deceptive with my pitches. I thought I was with my changeup. My fastball felt good, too. The best thing was having an umpire behind the plate for the first time.”
He added, “It gave me a better read about what I'm doing instead of having coaches tell me my pitches look good. Sometimes you don't surprise yourself when you do it so many times. You don't want to be in those situations, but if you get out of them, it seems to give you a boost.”
Looking at this statement, experts believe, Millwood’s enthusiasm, interest in the game and passion will help the Mariners in the next season to achieve some good results.
