Seattle Seahawks QB competition: Head coach Pete Carroll tells observers to be patient – NFL News
It is impossible to take the limelight away from the Seattle Seahawks without knowing anything about their starting quarterback for the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season.
Tarvaris Jackson, Matt Flynn and Russell Wilson are competing for the role and the team is apparently satisfied with the performance these three players have given so far.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll had made it clear quite earlier that all three players would be given equal opportunities and the one who performed better would eventually become the starter.
However, the coach is still facing the same question again and again and he is giving the same answer, again and again.
He was asked recently about the starting quarterback for the upcoming season and he replied by preaching patience.
He maintained that all the fans including the front office officials should be patient and said that Jackson would take the first team’s snaps during training camp. However, he again asserted that the other two players would be given equal opportunities
to prove their talent.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Carroll said of the starting quarterback position:
“We don’t know yet. We’re going to stay with Tarvaris as No. 1; he maintained that through the OTAs. But Matt is really ready to go, and so is Russell. They performed very well in our camps, their numbers were really close. They just deserve the chance to
keep battling. We’ll figure it out in time. I keep telling our people up there that I’m going to be patient so you better be patient or it’s going to be hard on you.”
Jackson was their starter last year as well, but he struggled with his form. This forced the team to add Flynn to the roster. Flynn had spent last season playing as backup for Green Bay Packers’ Aaron Rodgers. Wilson was selected during this year’s draft.
By the looks of the things, it is expected that the Seahawks are going to give equal opportunities to these three players in their training camp without announcing the starter.
They might have something to say before or during preseason games.
