Seattle Seahawks’ RB coach, Sherman Smith impressed with rookie Robert Turbin – NFL News
Seattle Seahawks’ running back coach, Sherman Smith, who himself has played for the team, is very much impressed with the performance of rookie running back, Robert Turbin, who was selected by the team during the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft
as 106th overall pick.
Smith, who also met with Turbin during the NFL Scouting Combine before the draft, has appreciated the player’s skills and talents and said that Turbin impressed him a lot during the interview he had with the player at the Combine.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Smith said of Turbin:
“Let me tell you, in the 18 years of doing interviews (at the NFL Scouting Combine), this kid is the best interview I’ve ever had.”
Smith also informed that he had a discussion with Turbin and said that the rookie wants to be a great football player; something which Smith wants from every player he coaches.
Smith said:
“Here’s a guy who has a desire to be a great player. That’s what gets me. It’s the desire that he has, along with the character that backs it up and the work ethic.”
Turbin has not formally started working out with the team as he is waiting for the start of the rookie minicamp, which is going to kick off this weekend.
At the minicamp, Turbin would get to know other players who were signed by the Seahawks during the draft or after that.
Later, Turbin will join the team’s training activities and undergo organised team activities (OTAs) before the start of the preseason after which he would finally get a chance to make his NFL debut.
Smith was of the view that Turbin is a great and ‘beautiful’ player and that he has potential of becoming one of the best running backs of the league.
The coach commented:
“I just talked to him yesterday and that’s what he said, ‘Coach, I want to be great’. So when you get a guy who tells you that, you know you have a chance to get a special player.”
Seahawks ended the last with winning only seven games. They are hoping to qualify for the playoffs in the upcoming season and have selected a few players during the draft and free agency market to achieve their goal.
