Seattle Seahawks’ WR Doug Baldwin hopes to exceed expectations – NFL News
Seattle Seahawks’ wide receiver, Doug Baldwin, was an undrafted free agent when he joined the team before the 2011 season, but his performance in the rookie year impressed all observers and the player has now started feeling pressure to live up to the expectations
in the upcoming season.
Baldwin started one game last year while playing 16 in which he registered a total of 788 yards on 51 receptions while scoring four touchdowns.
Due to the National Football League (NFL) lockout last year, Baldwin, like all other players, was unable to attend his team’s organised team activities (OTAs).
This time around, however, he is upbeat about taking part in all OTAs besides participating in the training camp that will take place before the start of the preseason games.
With the team officials and fans are expecting a better performance from Baldwin, the player has hoped to avoid sophomore slump, saying he will try to give his best shot in the 2012 season.
According to the Tacoma News Tribune, he said:
“One of my biggest things I keep hearing from people is not to have a sophomore slump. So one of my biggest things right now is to be perfect every day. Right now I’m working on my third perfect day with no drops and no missed assignments. So, not at all,
I think I have so much more to prove and so much more I’m capable of.”
Last year, Baldwin did not play as the outside slot receiver and the coaches utilised him mostly on inside positions.
At his college (Stanford), Baldwin used to play as a slot receiver and he thinks that he can take that role in the professional league as well.
However, Seahawks have not yet spoken about their plans regarding using Baldwin in the upcoming season.
Baldwin, too, admitted that the team officials have not yet contacted him regarding his playing position in the next season, but asserted that he is able to play on both positions.
He said:
“Obviously I would love to play outside. That’s where I played in college. But like I said, whatever role they ask me to do, my job is to be consistent and do well at it.”
