Seattle Seahawks WR Golden Tate denies cheating – NFL News
Seattle Seahawks’ game-winning touchdown in the final few seconds of Monday Night Football against Green Bay Packers did not only bring the replacement referees in the line of fire, but also Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate, who was accused of cheating.
The move that has been debated by nearly one related to the league was very controversial and it has now been established that the refs missed to call pass interference during the play that would have resulted in Packers’ victory.
However, Tate has denied that he cheated during the play. He has admitted that the play was controversial, but the player has responded seriously to the accusations.
He said of the messages he received after the game, via The Associated Press:
“I've been called a cheater, I don't have any dignity, I'm not a Christian, a lot of hurtful things.”
Packers were leading the game when Seahawks got an opportunity to score a touchdown. With just a few seconds left in the final quarter, quarterback Russell Wilson sent a pass towards Tate in the end zone.
Tate shoved out Packers cornerback Sam Shields and grabbed the ball along with Packers’ M.D. Jennings, who claimed that he had caught the ball instead of Tate.
Upon review of the play, it was agreed by the league office that Tate rightly got the benefit as he had also caught the ball, but the office, too, acknowledged that pass interference should have been called for shoving Shields.
Tate said of the situation:
"I can't control what other people say or do. I personally felt like I had the ball at that time, and looking back just off of what I remember, I felt like I had the ball in my hands. We both competed for the ball, and the call ended up going our way and
won the game. We're 2-1 now, time to move forward. The Rams (Sunday's opponents) are the most important thing right now."
Meanwhile, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has also urged everyone to move forward now and focus on the rest of the season. However, the decision has been receiving boos from everywhere and it has somewhat stolen the thunder of the Seahawks’ controversial
victory.
