Seattle Seahawks after Week 7 – NFL Special Part 1
Seattle Seahawks had a rollercoaster ride in their first seven weeks of the 2012 season. The games that were expected to go against them, resulted in their favour, while when it was expected that they would get victories, the results were otherwise.
In this space, we will review the seven games Seahawks have played so far and see on the basis of statistical analysis where the Seahawks played well and highlight the areas where they struggled.
At present, Seahawks are standing third in the National Football Conference (NFC) West with a 4-3 record. However, they still have plenty of chances to qualify for the playoffs and their performance in the rest of the season will further determine their
postseason chances.
Week 1: Arizona Cardinals
Seahawks had the option to start either with Matt Flynn or Russell Wilson at quarterback. They put up their faith on Wilson, who was selected in this year’s draft.
Wilson gave a mixed bag of performance in his National Football League (NFL) regular season debut. He averaged 4.5 yards per attempt which was not bad for a rookie. However, he was sacked thrice during the game.
The offence looked dull in the first half, but started to pick up the gas later in the second half. Seahawks got a 16-13 lead with less than 10 minutes left in the game, but a touchdown from Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb gave them a 20-16 victory.
Seahawks wide receiver Braylon Edwards got the opportunity to score a touchdown in the dying seconds of the game, but failed to catch the ball.
Week 2: Dallas Cowboys
Seahawks’ defence played a major role in their 27-7 victory against a strong Dallas Cowboys’ offence. This was their first home game of the season.
They were able to control Cowboys star quarterback Tony Romo who finished the game with just one touchdown.
Wilson had a good game. He completed 15 out of 20 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown. Running back Marshawn Lynch returned to form and carried the ball 26 times for 122 yards.
Kicker Steven Hauschka scored two field goals, while safety Jeron Johnson returned a punt for touchdown.
Special teams gave a very good start to the Seahawks, scoring 10 points in the first quarter. It was a complete dominance by Seahawks against a highly-ranked team.
Week 3: Green Bay Packers
Seahawks continued their good run of form as they took down another big gun. This time it was Green Bay Packers who lost the game 12-14.
Wilson scored a controversial touchdown in the final seconds of the game to give Seahawks victory in a tight game.
The two touchdowns scored by Wilson were enough for Seahawks to seal the victory. He finished with 10 of 21 for 130 yards. Lynch played well and covered 98 running yards.
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers had a miserable game. Even though he completed 233 passing yards, he was unable to score a touchdown. Kicker Mason Crosby scored two field goals in the third quarter.
Seahawks’ defence gave their second extraordinary performance in a row against a team that finished 15-1 last regular season. Defensive end Chris Clemons scored four sacks while defensive end Bruce Irvin got two sacks.
