Seattle Seahawks after Week 7 – NFL Special Part 2
We continue our review of Seattle Seahawks’ first seven weeks of the 2012 season.
In Part 2, we will go through the games played from Week 4 to Week 7. Seahawks came into Week 4 after beating two of the top teams in the league.
Week 4: St. Louis Rams
Seahawks’ defence faltered for the first time this season as St. Louis Rams won the game by 19-13.
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson gave away three interceptions and failed to score a touchdown. Seahawks kicker Steven Hauschka scored two field goals.
Running back Marshawn Lynch gave Seahawks a good start with a touchdown as he continued his good run of form. He carried the ball 20 times for 118 yards.
However, Seahawks failed to capitalise on the head start. Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein scored four field goals in the game which include a record-breaking 60-yard kick.
It was the longest kick in the Rams’ franchise history. His 24-yard kick with six minutes remaining clinched the victory for Rams.
Week 5: Carolina Panthers
Minutes after throwing an interception in the third quarter, Wilson came up with an excellent throw to score the Seahawks’ only touchdown of the game to seal a 16-12 win.
Wilson finished 19 of 25 for 221 yards. Lynch covered 85 running yards on 21 carries, but was unable to score a touchdown. Steven Hauschka scored three field goals.
The defence returned to its old form as it kept Panthers offence under the hood. Defensive end Bruce Irvin scored two sacks.
Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was the only player in the offence who showed good performance. He finished with 12 of 29 for 141 yards.
Week 6: New England Patriots
Seahawks thumbed another big gun as they beat New England Patriots 24-23 in a sensational game.
From 23-10 down in the final quarter, Seahawks marked a stunning comeback, thanks to two touchdowns by Wilson in the span of 6 minutes.
Wilson completed 16 out of 27 passes for 293 yards and three touchdowns. Seahawks wide receiving corps played a major role in the team’s win.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady failed to give a match-winning performance against a strong Seahawks defence. Although he scored two touchdowns, he also threw two interceptions. Patriots’ wide receiver Wes Welker had a good game as he covered 138 passing
yards.
Week 7: San Francisco 49ers
It was a battle between two teams that have a very good defensive record. San Francisco 49ers defence proved too much for the Seahawks rookie quarterback. 49ers won the game 13-6, thanks to the only touchdown of the game by quarterback Alex Smith.
The offence looked miserable despite Lynch carrying the ball 19 times for 103 yards. Lynch is leading the National Football Conference (NFC) for most yards covered at present.
Wilson ended the game with 9 of 23 for 122 yards and no touchdown, while Smith finished 14 of 23 for 140 yards and one touchdown. 49ers kicker David Akers scored two field goals at crucial moments of the game. This game landed Seahawks in third place in
their division.
