Seattle Seahawks beat Chicago Bears, 23-17 – NFL Week 13 Recap
Seattle Seahawks defeated Chicago Bears, 23-17, in Week 13 game on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Soldier Field, Chicago, IL.
It was a tough game as both sides tried to gain its control right from the start. In the first quarter, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler threw a 12-yard pass to wide receiver Earl Bennett, who scored a touchdown and took the lead to 7-0.
In the second quarter, Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch rushed for four yards and scored a touchdown to level the score.
With five seconds remaining, Seahawks kicker Steven Hauschka kicked a 31-yard field goal and increased the lead to 10-7.
Cutler threw a 12-yard pass to running back Matt Forte, who scored a touchdown and took the lead to 14-10.
Cutler finished the game with 17 of 26 passes for 233 yards and scored two touchdowns. With 65.4 completion percentage, his quarterback rating was 94.1.
In the fourth quarter, Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson threw a 14-yard pass to wide receiver Golden Tate, who scored a touchdown and increased the lead to 17-14.
At the end, Bears kicker Robbie Gould kicked a 46-yard field goal and tied the score at 17-17.
In overtime, while receiving a 13-yard pass from Wilson, wide receiver Sidney Rice got a hit from Bears safety Major Wright and fell in the end zone.
Later on, the pass was reviewed and the touchdown call was upheld, thus leading the Seahawks to 23-17 victory.
According to the Associated press, talking about his hit Rice said:
"(Medical personnel) rushed out on the field because I had a couple of concussions before, so they just wanted to make sure everything was fine,"
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was happy with performance of Wilson, he said:
"He's just so beautifully poised and so confident that it gives himself a chance to play at this level."
With quarterback rating of 85.4, Wilson completed 23 of 37 for 293 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Bears coach Lovie Smith blamed himself for this loss and said:
"That hasn't happened to us very often around here. Terrible job I did getting our football team ready. I thought we were ready to go. Some decisions I made really hurt us early on."
Cutler was not happy with the defeat and said:
"We don't lose many games like that here -- as long as I've been here and having a lead that late in the fourth quarter."
Seahawks have won seven and lost five games. They stand second in National Football Conference (NFC) West. They are going to play next game against Arizona Cardinals (4-8).
Bears have won eight and lost four games. They stand second in NFC North. They will play Week 14 game against Minnesota Vikings (6-6).
