Seattle Seahawks beat New England Patriots 24-23 in epic finish - NFL Recap
Seattle Seahawks showed on Sunday why their defence is the best rated in the National Football League (NFL) this season as they defeated New England Patriots number one league offence 24-23 in a pulsating matchup.
It was touch and go for the Seahawks but their rookie quarterback Russell Wilson saw that he added another big scalp to his name after previously overcoming the likes of Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Tony Romo, Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers and Carolina Panthers quarterback, Cam Newton.
The Seahawks won the game right at the death.
With the New England Patriots squandering a score of opportunities to put the game to bed, Wilson stepped up in the fourth quarter to setup an exciting finish.
The Seahawks were trailing 23-10 with nine minutes to go but Wilson was not ready to throw in the towel just yet even though his side had failed to score a single point in the second or third quarter.
Wilson struck back pushing the Seahawks forward and ending a big drive with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Braylon Edwards.
The Seahawks defence helped get the ball back and Wilson threw a huge 46-yard touchdown pass with 1:18 left to go to put his team in the lead by just a single point.
Next it was the turn of the team’s defence to help protect the league and they did just that sacking Brady for the first time in the game while they stopped wide receiver Wes Welker on fourth down to win a massive game.
Wilson ended up with 293 yards and three touchdowns and left the game to cheers from the home crowd.
Praise was all around for Wilson.
Seattle safety Earl Thomas said:
"If guys didn't believe in him. I guarantee they believe in him now."
The quarterback himself said:
"I think I'm always comfortable no matter the situation, I think I'm just more experienced. Being in those situations you have to trust what you see, you have to be quick with your decisions, but also believe in your decisions and just be decisive with the football."
The defeat sees the New England Patriots drop to 3-3 even though Brady passed for an impressive 395 yards and two touchdowns however, he was also intercepted twice by the Seahawks defence.
Brady looked disappointed after the game and rued the chances missed by the Patriots:
"You lose by one point and here are a lot of things we could have done better to not be in that situation.”
The Seahawks confidence will grow with another major win as they move up to 4-2 and they will need all of it as they make difficult away trip to the San Francisco 49ers in week 7.
