Seattle Seahawks bring back Marcus Trufant on a one-year deal – NFL News
Cornerback, Marcus Trufant, seems to be destined to play for the Seattle Seahawks as even after being released by the team earlier, he has been brought back to the side with which he is now going to play one more season, at least.
Trufant started his professional National Football League (NFL) career with the Seahawks in 2003. He has been playing as the team’s regular starter since his rookie year.
In 2008, Seahawks placed their franchise tag of Trufant and later awarded him a six-year, $50.2 million deal, which included a signing bonus of $10 million dollars.
However, his performance in two of the last three seasons was not up to the mark, apparently because of injuries.
In 2009-10 NFL season, he could only start nine games while playing 10 in which he recorded a total of 49 tackles.
In the next year, he was back in rhythm as he started all the games of the regular season. However, owing to a season-ending injury, he was able to play only four games in the last season in which he registered only 23 tackles.
Last month, Seahawks released him with a couple of years still left in his contract. The team cited financial issues behind his release.
Trufant explored different options in the open market, but failed to attract serious attention of any team, and around a month after his release, he once again joined his former team.
The amount of the one-year deal is not disclosed, but it is assumed that the amount would not be hefty.
Trufant’s rejoining is well received by the team’s fans and players.
Former wide receiver, Bobby Engram, who played with Trufant for three years, said of the player:
“I enjoyed playing with Tru. And he’s a great person off the field, as well. To me, that means just as much.”
The addition of Trufant in the line-up has further strengthened Seahawks’ defence. Recently, the Seahawks also gave contracts to cornerback, Roy Lewis, linebacker, Barrett Ruud, and guard, Deuce Lutui.
The addition of players in the defensive line indicates that Seahawks are planning to come up with an aggressive defensive unit in the next season. However, they should pay equal attention to their offence if they want to achieve glory in the next season.
