Seattle Seahawks capitalise on Arizona Cardinals miscues
The Seattle Seahawks held the Arizona Cardinals to a mere 114 yards passing and forced five turnovers en route to a 22-10 win last Sunday.
Turnovers and field goals was the story for the Seattle Seahawks, as they managed five of each on Sunday, 24 October.
The only Seahawks touchdown came when Arizona Cardinals' punt returner Andre Roberts muffed a punt, with the Seattle Seahawks special teams recovering the ball on the Cardinals' two-yard line. Two plays later and quarterback Matt Hasselbeck found receiver
Mike Williams for a two-yard touchdown pass, counting towards one of Williams' 11 catches on the day.
The Cardinals got a touchdown in the third quarter, after Derek Anderson had taken over for starting quarterback Max Hall. Beanie Wells capped off 70-yard drive with a two-yard run for a touchdown.
Seahawks kicker, Olindo Mare, was perfect on game day, hitting field goals from 20, 31, 51, 24 and 26 yards out.
Since missing two field goals in one game against the Chicago Bears last season, Mare has now gone 30 attempts without a miss.
"Going back to Chicago last year, those two kicks, it was windy, but I should have made those, too...You don't have many excuses. You're out there to do that, and when you get on a roll like that it shows."
Arizona head coach, Ken Whisenhunt, wasn't pleased with the way his team gave up possession of the ball, pointing out the effect that turning the ball over has on the mindset of a team.
"It's just very tough to overcome the turnovers we had today, and not only from the standpoint of points, but emotionally when you are on the road and in this stadium."
Cardinals quarterback, Max Hall, who got the hook after fumbling the ball on a vicious third quarter sack by Chris Clemons, was also disappointed about his role in his team's loss.
"I am obviously disappointed in how I played...But you have to give credit to them [Seahawks]. They played well."
With the big divisional win, the Seattle Seahawks take over sole possession of first place over the Cardinals, who remain in second in the NFC West.
The Seahawks will now travel to Oakland to take on the Raiders, who will be energized after just coming off a 59-14 blowout of the Denver Broncos.
The Cardinals play host to the 4-2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Sunday, 31 October.
