Seattle Seahawks defence upbeat about the upcoming season – NFL News
Last season, Seattle Seahawk had one of the best defensive records in the National Football League (NFL).
Yet the new addition to the roster and better preparation could mean Seahawks defence getting even better.
Last season was a phenomenal for the Seahawks defence as it intercepted 22 passes and compiled 33 sacks. The defence gave up just 18 passing touchdowns, giving consistent performance throughout the season.
Seahawks defence was ranked the fourth best in the 2011 season, allowing an average of just 219.9 passing yards per game.
The season’s track record was appreciated with the placement of their three defensive playbacks in the Pro Bowl.
Seahawks have further strengthened their defence by acquiring linebacker Bruce Irvin in the first round of the 2012 draft. Irvin is coming up with a very good reputation in college level where he posted almost a sack per match.
They have also drafted Bobby Wagner, who could be very handy this season with his good acceleration at linebacker.
Defensive end Jason Jones is also a worthy addition. He had a good season last year scoring 27 tackles and three sacks while getting one forced fumble. Jones has played four seasons for Tennessee Titans.
Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley thinks that offseason training sessions will help new players develop chemistry and understand the system, which will make them more efficient. He said:
"I hope very physical. We've got some guys that really pride themselves on that. On our defensive line, guys like Red, (Brandon) Mebane, and then, when you look at our secondary, too, Kam Chancellor, 228-pound strong safety that's very physical in nature.”
He added:
“And then our linebackers. Leroy Hill is a physical player. So I think that's the mentality we're constantly building and I think we'll play more physical with a better understanding we have of our concepts."
Seahawks’ secondary seems to be the toughest and the deepest in the entire NFL and they have got a chance to prove themselves in the 2012 season by playing against aggressive offensive teams like New England Patriots, Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers.
Many players including Marcus Trufant and Walter Thurmond are also coming back from respective injuries, making the secondary even more solid which already has Brandon Browner, Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor.
With all the things going Seahawks way as far as the defence is concerned, the team has got a chance to become the best in the league.
