Seattle Seahawks delighted on defeating San Francisco 49ers, claiming playoff berth – NFL News
Seattle Seahawks achieved a few remarkable feats after their Week 16 game.
First, they defeated their National Football Conference (NFC) West opponents the San Francisco 49ers, who won the division title last year and eyeing another one this season. Second, they secured a playoff berth and even if they lose their Week 17 game,
their postseason berth is guaranteed. Third, they prevented the 49ers from winning the division title this year, meaning both 49ers and Seahawks now have a chance to claim the title.
These feats have delighted head coach Pete Carroll, who took some gutsy decision early in the season that eventually paid him off. The most notable was the introduction of rookie quarterback Russell Wilson on the starting line.
Wilson has been amazing for the Seahawks, who have performed brilliantly on offence of late and are presently on a four-game winning streak.
To defeat 49ers is itself a commendable achievement because 49ers are among the best teams in the league, especially after their heroic performance last season in which they played in the NFC championship game.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Carroll has expressed his delight on the outcome of their Week 16 game.
“This is a terrific win for us because of the respect we have for this club,” Carroll said of 49ers. He continued:
“These guys have been winning like crazy the last couple of years. … I take a lot of pride in the fact that we played like that against this team and these coaches.”
Talking about his team’s performance, Carroll said:
“The thing has been happening, it’s been coming together. We’re getting better, and you can just feel it and see it. And it’s coming to life for us.”
Meanwhile, Wilson said of the team’s success:
“It showed how talented we are.”
The quarterback added:
“There’s nothing I can say about where we’re going. All I know is what we have next.”
The Seahawks are going to play their regular season finale against the St. Louis Rams. If the Seahawks win this game and the 49ers get defeated by the Arizona Cardinals, the NFC West title will go to Seattle this season.
