Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll expresses faith in Russell Wilson – NFL News
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has expressed faith in abilities of rookie quarterback Russell Wilson, denying the impression that Seahawks were planning on replacing him.
Seahawks are placed at the bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) West after winning two of their four games and Wilson has so far not been able to live up to the potential he displayed during the preseason.
However, Carroll is hopeful that the rookie quarterback will find his rhythm soon. The Seahawks head coach has appreciated Wilson’s strengths and said that the rookie is working hard to improve his performance.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Carroll said of Wilson after Week 4 defeat against St. Louis Rams:
“We’re going with Russell right now, and he’s working his tail off to get it right. We’re all aware that the focus goes back to the quarterback position, but there are a lot of guys that figure into what’s going on.”
Seahawks would have got third victory in a row had they defeated Rams. However, some flaws in their performance allowed Rams to take the game away.
Wilson has also acknowledged that there are some areas for the team to improve so as to stay alive in the competition. He said:
“When you lose and you turn the ball over three times and you have a couple of penalties when we’re moving the ball, that always hurts you. We still had an opportunity, though. It shows that if we just fine-tune those little things that we’re doing wrong
we’ve got a shot to really be good.”
Seahawks also have a great quarterback in Matt Flynn, who is serving as Wilson’s backup. Flynn has joined the team this year after spending four years at Green Bay Packers, serving as backup to Aaron Rodgers.
During the offseason, Flynn was expected to lead the Seahawks in the regular season, but Wilson’s preseason performance earned him the role leaving the other player behind. Also, Flynn is reportedly dealing with an elbow injury that has kept him limited
in practice and training. However, Carroll has made it clear that Flynn will be ready to take the field, if required.
