Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll pleased with his quarterbacks – NFL News
It is still not decided who will be the starting quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season, but head coach Pete Carroll is pleased with the efforts all three contenders for the position have put so far.
Carroll has three choices at the moment.
The first one is Tarvaris Jackson who was their starter during the last season and is relatively more experienced than the other two players.
Another option is Matt Flynn who has joined the team this offseason after parting ways with the Green Bay Packers.
With Packers, Flynn mostly played as a backup and did not have enough experience when it comes to spending playing time on the field.
However, Flynn performed remarkably well in the opportunities he got with the Packers, and that’s why he can be selected for the position.
The third option is rookie Russell Wilson, who was selected by the Seahawks during this year’s draft.
Initially, it was expected that Jackson and Flynn would compete for the role, but the addition of Wilson made many observers to feel that the management might decide to start with the rookie.
However, Carroll has maintained that he will give equal opportunities to every player before making the final call. He has also clarified that the addition of Wilson was aimed at adding depth to the roster.
All the players have been training with the team and as the Seahawks prepare for their training camp it is still not known who will be the starter.
However, Carroll is pleased with the way these players have trained so far. He told the Associated Press:
"I've been really pleased with the way they've worked. They've busted their tails to get their stuff done. They've all been able to run the club and function in the huddle and make their adjustments and the calls.”
He added:
"We'll stay with the same format going into camp. I don't think that will change. (Jackson) will go first and away we go, but other than that let the games begin and we'll see how it goes."
Meanwhile, all three quarterbacks have embraced the challenge handsomely with everyone trying to give his best shot to earn the starting role.
