Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll takes shot at San Francisco 49ers – NFL News
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has rubbished the claim of San Francisco 49ers, who argued that the referees should have called penalties on a few plays during Week 7 game when Seahawks’ defensemen tackled 49ers’ offensive players.
49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh had said that the team would take up the matter to the league, but did not provide further details.
However, Carroll has surprisingly taken a shot at 49ers, saying that the league will not carry out any investigation just because somebody has asked for it.
Carroll further said that since Seahawks defence was very strong 49ers’ receivers were unable to make room for themselves and that bothered them.
The Seahawks head coach told ESPN Seattle, via NFL.com:
"I think that this was a very normal game ... in terms of how we played. I'm surprised that (Harbaugh) felt like the receivers were so overwhelmed. I thought our guys did a good job. There's always going to be some calls that you can look at, but our guys
played good, solid, hard football. Vernon Davis didn't get the ball, and their receivers didn't do much, and Randy (Moss) got one, so I'm sure there's a little frustration there.”
Meanwhile, Harbaugh has declined to comment on the matter, saying that he has been instructed not to criticise the officiating in any game.
Even though the 49ers head coach was repeatedly asked to present his stance, Harbaugh denied giving one, but maintained that the team would not be bothered if someone called it anything.
When asked to respond on Carroll’s comments regarding receivers getting overwhelmed, Harbaugh said, according to the team’s website:
“We’re from the ‘sticks and stones’ school of approach. So, calling us names isn’t going to hurt us.”
Whatever direction this issues takes, it cannot be ignored that 49ers, who are currently leading National Football Conference (NFC) West, won that game, while Seahawks, who are ranked second, still have a lot of work to do to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Carroll’s comments might attract media attention, but they, in no way, can bring improvement in his team’s performance, which should be his focus now.
