Seattle Seahawks’ head coach Pete Carroll: wide receiver Terrell Owens might get the starting spot
Seattle Seahawks’ head coach Pete Carroll has the reputation to approach things differently and hiring a 38-year-old player who has not played in the National Football League (NFL) for a season is the perfect example of it.
Seahawks signed wide receiver Terrell Owens on Monday on a one-year deal reportedly worth $1 million.
If that was not enough, Coach Carroll left some astonishing comments on his Twitter page on Tuesday, August 07, 2012, which said:
"His workout and work ethic was extraordinary. He has a chance to start over here, and that's pretty cool."
It was previously thought that Owens would face an uphill task for getting a roster spot.
Working under Carroll gives Owens an opportunity for getting the starting spot by proving himself in training camp.
Guys at the Seahawks’ camp were impressed by Owens’ output on the field during the trials after which they hired him.
After being released by Cincinnati Bengals in the offseason last year, Owens got no offer from any NFL team. He then played for Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League.
Owens was very happy for his return to the NFL. He tweeted:
"God is good. Thankful. Grateful. To ALL my new teammates & the "12th Man"... Let's Do This!! "
Owens has been getting greetings from many former teammates and coaches. Among those is Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett who worked with Owens. Talking to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Garrett said:
"He's going to go down as one of the all-time greats to ever play his position. He has a passion for playing. We know that because we were around him, how he practiced and how he played. I wish him nothing but the best. He'll help their football team."
In order to get the starting spot, Owens must give better output than his companions in the receiving corps.
This includes the recently signed Braylon Edwards and Golden Tate. It is likely that only one will get the starting spot among Owens and Edwards.
