Seattle Seahawks outscore Adrian Peterson and Minnesota Vikings in 30-20 win - NFL Recap
The Seattle Seahawks continued their unbeaten run at home with a big 30-20 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday as running back Marshawn Lynch and rookie quarterback Russell Wilson delivered some of their best performances of the season.
Seattle were brilliant in offence, outscoring Minnesota whose own star running back Adrian Peterson delivered his best performance of the season.
The Seahawks defence could not handle Peterson who ramped up 182 yards rushing from 17 carries and scored two touchdowns but his efforts were not enough to help the Vikings as they succumbed to a second straight defeat.
Lynch the other star running back on show rushed for 124 yards from 26 carries and scored a single touchdown to help Seattle to a much needed win and ensuring that their unbeaten home record remains intact.
Wilson was hugely impressed by the rushing game on display and told the media after the game:
"I am a fan. Watching those two guys run the football you don't see it too often in this lifetime."
The quarterback himself delivered a brilliant performance throwing three touchdown passes all of them in the first half. He passed for 173 yards and completed 16 of 24 attempted passes.
Seattle coach Pete Carroll said after the game:
"I thought it was the kind of day that we needed to start the second half. We put a lot of pressure on our guys to play well today and to get things done and get this thing going."
Minnesota started off the game brightly with Adrian Peterson putting the Vikings up almost immediately after scoring a one yard touchdown just a minute and 45 seconds after the start of the game.
Seattle countered back with Russell throwing the first of two first quarter touchdowns to Golden Tate from six yards who dodged defenders before jumping over Vikings cornerback Josh Robinson as he just about managed to get the ball into the end zone before
it got loose from his grip.
Five minutes later the Seahawks were up 14-7 as Wilson sent an 11-yard touchdown pass to Sidney Rice.
Peterson did his best to get the Vikings back in the lead in the second quarter by scoring his second touchdown of the night but the Seahawks regained the advantage as Wilson once again found Tate this time from 11-yards to put the home side up 20-17 at
the end of the first half.
Seahawks, Marshawn Lynch stepped up in the third quarter with his own rushing touchdown to make it 27-17 with the home side holding the Vikings back to end the game 30-20.
Vikings receiver Percy Harvin said that the team’s offence was too dependent on the rushing game and Peterson and that they need to diversify the offence if the franchise is to win such games.
"We kind of are one-dimensional right now. Adrian is running the ball incredibly well, the line is block for him real good, so we just have to dial up better pass plays."
The Seahawks are now 5-4 and are looking like a strong side for the games ahead.
