Seattle Seahawks’ performance review in the National Football League (NFL) 2011-12 season (Part I)
Under head coach, Pete Carroll, Seattle Seahawks won seven games in the National Football League (NFL) regular season 2010-2011 to qualify for the playoffs, but the team needed to play a little better to ensure their entry into the postseason in the present
season.
Unfortunately, it failed!
Seahawks repeated the same performance and won seven games in the regular season 2011-2012, but this time they were faced with extensive competition, which prevented them from entering the playoffs.
After starting the season in an unimpressive manner, Seahawks recovered well towards the end and finished the season at third spot in the National Football Conference (NFC)—West division.
In this space, we are going to have a look at the performance of this team against different opponents throughout the season.
At San Francisco
Seattle Seahawks played its first game against San Francisco 49ers.
Defensively, they were good at the beginning, but the 49ers overpowered them as the game progressed.
After a scoreless first quarter, 49ers managed three field goals and a touchdown in the second.
Seahawks got their first scoring move in the third quarter when they scored a touchdown, which was followed by a field goal in the final.
Seahawks scored another touchdown in the final and reduced the deficit to two goals.
However, 49ers managed two touchdowns in the final five minutes of the game to beat Seahawks, 33-17.
At Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh Steelers was even more devastating for Seattle Seahawks.
Right from the start, Steelers were all over the Seahawks, who could not get any scoring move in the game.
Steelers got a touchdown in the first quarter, and another touchdown and a field goal in the second, followed by another touchdown in the third, to register 24 points.
Seahawks prevented further humiliation by defending well in the final quarter, which went scoreless.
Against Arizona Cardinals
Seahawks registered their first win of the season while playing their first home game.
Arizona Cardinals visited Seattle and were defeated, 13-10, in a low scoring game.
By the end of the first half, Cards were leading by 10-6.
In the third quarter, Seahawks managed a touchdown after which no scoring move was made.
Despite the victory, the management was worried about the team's overall performance as both, the defence and the offence were yet to play at their best.
Against Atlanta Falcons
Seahawks played their second home game against Atlanta Falcons, who faced a tough competition, but managed to beat the hosts.
However, Seahawks’ overall performance was appreciated as the offence played really well for the first time in the season.
Furthermore, a comeback in the second half almost brought victory for them, but there was still something to learn.
By the halftime, Falcons had scored three touchdowns and a field goal, whereas Seahawks were restricted to a single touchdown.
In the second half, Seahawks scored three touchdowns while allowing only two field goals, and lost the game by a difference of just two points, 30-28.
Seahawks’ quarterback, Tarvaris Jackson, despite playing well on different occasions, could not avoid throwing interceptions, and the same happened in this game.
He completed 25 of 38 attempted passes for an impressive 319 yards, but sent two interceptions along with three touchdowns to stain his record. He got a quarterback rating of 96.3.
