Seattle Seahawks place left tackle Russell Okung on injured reserve – NFL News
The team management of Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday placed left tackle Russell Okung on injured reserves, adding to the already long list of injured players.
During the week 13 game of the National Football League current season against Philadelphia Eagles, Okung was tackled quite severely by Eagles defensive end Trent Cole. A day later, Okung was diagnosed with a torn right pectoral muscle, which could end the season for him.
Russell started his professional career in the year 2010 with the Seahawks. In his second season, he has started all the 12 games for his team, but it seems like he is going to have his season ended without increasing that count.
His injury came as a blow for Seattle’s offensive line, which is already missing the regular starters linemen James Carpenter and John Moffitt, and receiver Sidney Rice. All of them are out due to injuries. Okung is the fourth starter in the last three weeks to have been placed on the injured reserve.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll informed that now Paul McQuistan will take Okung’s place and play as left tackle. Paul, who is playing as right guard currently, will be replaced by Lemuel Jeanpierre.
The coach is fortunate enough to have such a depth in his line that is allowing him to shuffle the positions. He hoped that the experiment works out well for him.
"The fact that these guys have been with us and we don't have to go outside the organization and the system to get guys means we're very fortunate," he said. "It does speak to the depth that we started camp with, in terms of familiar faces, anyway, instead of having to go some other way. Hopefully this'll work out and we'll be able to keep going."
Meanwhile, Seahawks have also signed guard Mike Gibson, who has eight starts to his credit for Seahawks.
Seahawks have won five games this season and lost seven. They are placed at the second spot in the National Football Conference West division. They have got four more games to play before the end of the regular season, and their coach wants to make a good finish.
"We're getting close now where new guys are going to have to play next," coach Pete Carroll said. "Hopefully we can keep everybody together and make a good finish here."
