Seattle Seahawks prepare for tough battle as Green Bay Packers visit – NFL Preview
Seattle Seahawks’ abilities on defence and offence are going to be seriously tested on Monday, September 24, as Green Bay Packers visit them to play Week 3 game of the 2012 season at CenturyLink Field.
Seahawks got off to a losing start, but did well in Week 2 game to get their first win. The same is the case with Packers, who are 1-1 after two games.
However, Packers have faced tougher opponents than Seahawks. In their Week 1 game, Packers were defeated by San Francisco 49ers, while they overcame Chicago Bears in Week 2 game.
Seahawks lost their Week 1 game against Arizona Cardinals after coming very close to victory. They were brave against Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 game and won it comprehensively, restricting the Cowboys to only one scoring move in the entire game.
Now this game provides an opportunity for both these teams to establish a winning run and outclass other teams in their respective divisions. Seahawks particularly need to maintain a winning run right from the start of the season if they want to qualify
for the playoffs. This is because the National Football Conference (NFC) West is a very competitive division and any mistake from them can dent their prospects.
Apart from a strong 49ers team, Seahawks now also face challenge in the division from Arizona Cardinals, who have surprisingly got off to a 3-0 start and are currently leading the division.
Seahawks have a good running game and that is what gives them a slight edge over Packers. Even Packers head coach Mike McCarthy has expressed concerns about tackling Seahawks’ running game. He said:
“We have two special teams touchdowns in two games, so that’s definitely a plus. But we have some things we have to work on. Seattle’s return game is excellent, and (coverage) is something that we have to do a better job of. So we’ve really emphasized the
kickoff coverage and punt coverage.”
On the other hand, Packers also have a smart running unit that will certainly add to their strength against Seahawks, who did pretty well on defence against Chicago Bears in Week 2 game.
Seahawks running back Michael Robinson said of Packers:
“You like matchups like this – you like to face some of the best returners, you like to face some of the best competition. Just to see where you are.”
If Seahawks win this game, this will give them a good advantage of competition with other teams in their division. Robinson continued:
“It’s always like that when you face a good unit.”
He added:
“This is definitely a big-time challenge, and we look forward to it.”
Although Seahawks have the home field advantage, Packers still have an edge over the home team.
