Seattle Seahawks receiver Mike Williams' status unknown
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck loves throwing to Mike Williams, but is preparing for the absence of his favorite target when Seattle takes on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday 28 November.
Williams leads the Seahawks this season with 52 catches, but his status for this Sunday is questionable, as he has been suffering from a foot problem.
"Right now, I'm treating it like he cannot go," Hasselbeck told reporters when explaining how he was preparing for the game.
"That's really how I'm going into it – that's how I'm studying film, that's how I think this game plan is set up, as if he's not playing. So if he can play, that would just be an added bonus."
According to head coach Pete Carroll, Williams has responded well to treatment after picking up the injury in last week's 34-19 loss to the New Orleans Saints, but whether or not he'll be ready to go come Sunday is another matter.
"It seems like, from what I'm hearing from the trainers and the doc, that it's the worst it's already been and it's improving from this point forward and there's not a concern about it continuing to worsen. It's just how long does it take it to get well
enough to where he can go full-speed."
Williams' numbers have skyrocketed in recent weeks as the Seahawks have begun to ignore their ground game and rely more heavily on their potency through the air. And with a reliable receiver like Williams, Hasselback has seen his passing numbers improve
as well.
"I'm not sure we've ever been so dependent on one guy just winning one-on-one matchups," Hasselbeck said. "I think we've been more dependent on guys knowing what to do and doing it with the right timing and that kind of thing. And then the system just sort
of works that way. But Mike is a guy that if you get him one-on-one, you take advantage. You go for it."
