Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch issues apology after arrest – NFL News
After getting arrested under the suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI), Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has issued an apology statement for his misappropriate conduct.
According to the team’s official website, the running back said in the statement said:
"I want to apologize to my family, the Seattle Seahawks, the NFL and the 12th Man for the negative attention resulting from my recent actions. This is not the type of community leader I have been over the last two years or the one I'm striving to become.
I want to assure everyone that I will work to be better and look forward to a very exciting, and very successful season with the Seattle Seahawks."
Lynch was arrested on Saturday, July 14, 2012 for driving under the influence. Reports about the arrest started to come out on Monday.
Lynch was reported to move his car between lanes in a loop and had nearly hit other cars around him.
Lynch’s blood alcohol level was reported to be above .08 legal limits. Lynch is scheduled to appear in an Oakland Court on August 14.
Lynch’s legal attorney has come out and said that there is more than 50% chance that Lynch will be acquitted from the DUI charge, due to some complications in the testing process.
Seahawks have issued a statement about this matter. It said:
"We are aware of the situation with Marshawn and still gathering information."
Lynch could be suspended by the league for misconduct even if the charges are not proved. It will be interesting to see how Seahawks cope with such a dear situation, if it occurs. Lynch signed a four-year, $31 million contract with the Seahawks in March
this year.
Lynch has a long criminal record. He was previously arrested for reckless driving in 2008, after hitting a woman and driving away.
In 2009, he was suspended by the league for three games after he pleaded guilty to misdemeanour gun charge.
Lynch was drafted by Buffalo Bills in the first round (12th overall pick) of the 2007 draft. He had an astounding rookie season, getting more than 1,000 yards.
Last season, Lynch got 285 carries and rushed for 1,204 yards while scoring 12 touchdowns. He is a vital part of the Seahawks' offence.
There is not much backup available for Seahawks in case Lynch gets suspended. In any case, Lynch will be under attention in coming days.
