Seattle Seahawks sign veteran wide receiver Braylon Edwards – NFL News
Seattle Seahawks have added another veteran wide receiver, Braylon Edwards, to their roster to bolster the depth and experience at the position, different media outlets reported on Tuesday, July 31, 2012.
Edwards reportedly signed a one-year contract with the Seahawks.
This gives Edwards another chance to revive his National Football League (NFL) career. Edward seemed very comfortable and relaxed during the practice session on Tuesday.
He was very appreciative of the Seahawks’ professional atmosphere on the practice field and said:
"I like what they've got going on out here. Just walking and talking to these guys when I came on an interview last year, it's a high-positive organization. There is a lot of positivity and you can see the energy these guys have. These guys are happy to
come out here and play for coach (Pete) Carroll and their position coaches and it seems like they have the thing moving in the right direction."
Edwards is coming to Seahawks carrying eight years of experience. His career has seen many ups and down. He was considered as one of the best wide receivers in the league in the 2007 season, but went through turbulent form since then.
Edwards had a tryout with the Seahawks before the start of training camp. Although the Seahawks’ camp was satisfied with him, they signed Antonio Bryant.
He then went for trials at Miami, but Edwards was again contacted by Seahawks and the deal was done late Monday night.
After the addition of Edwards, Seahawks have tight competition for the starting spot at wide receiver.
They have young players including Doug Baldwin, Sidney Rice, Golden Tate and the recently signed Bryant. All the players are skilful and have the energy to provide good output.
Edwards was signed by San Francisco 49ers last season on a one-year deal. He had an injury-plagued season as he caught a mere 15 passes and covered 181 yards without getting any touchdown.
Edwards, 29, looks to be a perfect replacement for Williams as he has similar weight and height. His speed along with his skills could become a driving force at the receiving posts for Seahawks. Edwards said:
"Size and speed, that's one thing I bring to the table. That size ... but some speed to go with it.”
