Seattle Seahawks stun Dallas Cowboys 27-7 – NFL Recap
Seattle Seahawks held their nerves as their rookie quarterback Russell Wilson showed an improved performance against Tony Romo-led Dallas Cowboys to win the game, 27-7, on Sunday, September 16, at CenturyLink Field, Seattle.
The Cowboys offence was helpless throughout the game as Romo returned to Seattle to avenge his team’s loss in the 2006 season when the quarterback had fumbled a snap.
However, things did not go the way Romo had wanted and the crowd had expected, especially after Cowboys’ victory against the defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants in the season opener. Romo said after the defeat:
“We had a lot of opportunities to do some things in the game, whether it was, like I said, either a mental breakdown or a physical error. And that's everybody, it wasn't one guy and it's not just the offense, but also special teams, we obviously made some
mistakes and we just got to be better in all capacities.”
The game brought many encouraging developments for the hosts. First, it was Wilson, who finally was able to show some class. He completed 15 of 20 passes for 151 yards while scoring one touchdown.
Another positive development for Seahawks was running back Marshawn Lynch’s game. The player gained 122 yards on 26 carries and got a touchdown in the final quarter.
Furthermore, Seahawks’ special teams delivered pretty special efforts as they overpowered the Cowboys with their physical strength.
Seahawks maintained their firm grip over the game right from the start. In the first quarter, they got a field goal and a touchdown, while the Cowboys were unable to get any scoring move in the quarter.
Romo sent a 22-yard pass to Miles Austin in the second quarter and the Cowboys’ only scoring drive of the game came in the quarter through that move.
The Seahawks dominated the rest of the game. In the same quarter, they got a field goal to further increase their lead.
Wilson got his first touchdown of the game in the third quarter while Lynch played his part in the final quarter to seal the victory for the Seahawks, who were defeated in a close encounter in their season opener against Arizona Cardinals.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was very pleased with his team. He was particularly happy about how all the players performed in the game and played their due part in ensuring the victory. He said:
“For us to put together that kind of game and finish in the second half so aggressively and so tough, I’m really proud of that. That is the way we’d like to do it.”
Cowboys are now going to play their first home game of the season as they host Tampa Bay Buccaneers for Week 3 game, while Seahawks will face Green Bay Packers in their next game.
