Seattle Seahawks tackle James Carpenter happy to be back – NFL News
After missing the last few games of his rookie season owing to a knee injury, Seattle Seahawks tackle James Carpenter recently joined his teammates and practised with them as the Seahawks continued their preparation to face Arizona Cardinals in their regular
season opener on Sunday, September 09.
James, 23, was selected by the Seahawks in the first round of the 2011 draft. He played nine games in his rookie season before getting sidelined due to the injury. The tackle started training camp this offseason on the physically unable to perform list,
but continued to show progress in his recovery.
Earlier, there were fears that he might even miss the entire 2012 season, but the player defeated those fears and has now joined the team.
According to the details present on the team’s website, James certainly was a bit cautious about the injury, but he is not thinking about it right now and keeping his entire focus on his game. He said:
“Yes, I was worried. But I just kept working and just waiting to be back to this right here. So I’m just happy to be back.”
James played one game at left guard last year while his services were utilised at right tackle in eight games. In the 2012 season, he is expected to again play at guard. James said:
“I’m going to be happy playing guard. I feel that’s where I should be playing.”
Meanwhile, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has also expressed satisfaction on the player’s performance. The coach wants James to be a part of the squad in the longer run and that is why he has retained him on the 53-man roster.
Carroll is impressed with Carpenter’s ability to play at different positions and thinks that this will help the team. The head coach said of the player:
“Carp is doing marvellously. He’s doing a very rigorous workout, long spells of things on the field. We’re trying to simulate three days a week of hard practicing and then one more real hard day of practicing to see how he endures it. And he’s handling it
well.”
On the other hand, different media reports have suggested that the status of Seahawks star running back Marshawn Lynch is not clear for the season opener.
