Seattle Seahawks tight end Kellen Winslow sued for damages to home - NFL News
Just a few days after being traded to Seattle Seahawks by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, tight end, Kellen Winslow finds himself embroiled in a lawsuit according to newspaper
UT San Diego.
According to the newspaper homeowners Ahmad and Nona Zarei who had rented their luxury home to Winslow last year are suing the player for what they claim are significant damages done to the property during the six months the player stayed there.
According to details of the lawsuit acquired by the newspaper, the owners are suing Winslow for damages of $ 133,000.
The owners allege that Persian rugs in the house were damaged significantly and the entire home smelled badly of animal waste.
They also claim that outside furniture had cigarette and cigar burns on them while the Master Bedroom was left with holes in the wall.
"Every corner of the home was damaged,”
The suit also claimed that utilities for the six-month stay also remained unpaid by Winslow.
“The water to the residence, which was (Winslow's) responsibility to pay, was turned off by the local utility for lack of payment,”
Winslow’s attorney completely rejected the lawsuit and claimed that it was a move on part of the homeowners to ‘shakedown’ his client.
"It's a shakedown of a professional athlete,"
Adding further he said.
"They want to portray it as though Kellen Winslow had a fraternity of football friends partying. But the house was rented for his wife, who was pregnant. She was living there with her mother and a housekeeper. There was no partying going on. Kellen was rarely
even there. "
The attorney also had explanations for several damages alleged in the lawsuit.
He claimed that the player’s dog had an accident on the Persian rug but it was cleaned thoroughly while the holes in the bedroom were made to hang flat screen television screens.
The insurance company for the homeowners also is thinking about joining the lawsuit against the player to recover the payments it had to make in lieu of the damages.
More developments over this lawsuit are expected in the coming days although Winslow will have no trouble paying for the damages if he is found guilty.
