Seattle Seahawks to start with QB Matt Flynn against Tennessee Titans in preseason game – NFL News
The Seattle Seahawks have announced that Matt Flynn will be the starting quarterback in their first preseason game against the Tennessee Titans to be played on Saturday August 11.
This has given a direction to the quarterback competition that has been in place since the past few months between Flynn, Tarvaris Jackson and rookie Russell Wilson.
Although Flynn has not been confirmed as the starter for the regular season, his confirmation for the starting role in the preseason game has given him a handsome advantage over the other competitors.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll announced the starter on Tuesday, August 07, 2012, after the team’s practice. According to the details present on the team’s website, Carroll said:
“Matt has done a great job so far. He’s learned the system and he’s on it. He can make all the adjustments and all the calls. He can read the defence very well and he’s moving very well in the pocket.”
The head coach added:
“But now I need to see him in a situation where he takes over and see what that looks like.”
Seahawks are going to start their regular season with a game against Arizona Cardinals on September 09, and the coach has said that the management has still not decided who will be their starter in that game.
This provides a chance for Jackson and Wilson to show what they have got. If Flynn somehow fails to impress the management then the team will turn to anyone of them.
By the looks of the things, Flynn might be able to impress the critics during his first appearance as the Seahawks’ starter. He was aggressive and productive last year when he represented the Green Bay Packers.
However, Jackson’s prospects can also not be overruled. He has been playing for the Seahawks and knows their system well. When asked when the Seahawks will decide their starting quarterback for the regular season, Carroll said:
“As soon as possible, but I’m not going to rush it. I’m going to take my time and get really good information on what I need first.”
He added:
“I really want good information coming in so we can really make a clear choice.”
